Bridge opening
The bridge opens upon contact with the bridge operator and according to the opening times described below for recreational boating and merchant shipping.
Prior to opening, contact must be made with the bridge operator on VHF channel 9. If a VHF radio is not available, contact can be made via telephone at +46 730-27 72 72. However, VHF radio should be considered the primary means of communication if available. The bridge operator requests that an open communication channel is maintained with the passing vessel during the transit, to allow for direct dialogue if necessary.
Openings for recreational boating are regulated according to a fixed schedule. Openings for merchant shipping are conducted continuously as needed, around the clock, with the exception of restricted periods.
Restricted periods are intended to maintain smooth traffic flow over the bridge for other road users, such as public transport, pedestrians, and cyclists. No bridge openings are permitted during these periods (except in cases of emergency). The restricted periods apply on weekdays (excluding public holidays) from 6:00 AM to 9:00 AM and from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM.
One way to stay informed about bridge openings is by downloading the Trafiken.nu app. The app allows you to set up a personalised alert — a form of subscription for a specific route or area — which will notify you via push notification when events occur along that route, including bridge openings. Notifications can also be received for other types of traffic events.
An opening of Hisingsbron results in the closure of road traffic for approximately 8–12 minutes. Shorter or longer opening times may occur depending on specific circumstances. If all vessels have not passed before the bridge closes, it will reopen after approximately 20–30 minutes.
Bridge opening schedule
Bridge openings for maritime traffic take place only upon request, provided that at least one vessel has requested an opening, during the following times:
